Yano is recognized as the “Standard
of the Army” and was designed to provide training 300 days out of the
year. The size of the range is 1,350 meters by 4,600 meters. The
construction included 68,000 L.F. of tank trail roads and service
roads, 24 defilade and 6 battle position, earth berms with timber
retaining walls and target storage buildings for 12 moving armor
target systems, site for 60 stationary armor target systems, 153
stationary infantry targets, and 45 moving infantry targets.
Support facilities included a control tower, latrine, helipads,
covered mess, general instruction building, enclosed bleachers, tent
pads, ammunition breakdown building, intrusion detection system
(IDUS), range flag pole, ammunition dock, range operation, a crushed
rock staging area, lyster bag holders, vehicle holding and maintenance
area, vehicle staging and parking area, walks, crushed rock pads, and
prefabricated metal buildings, primary power, secondary power and data
distribution, service roads with bridge, limit markers, berms and site
improvements. Supporting facilities included all construction outside
the range complex perimeter consisting of replacing approximately 3
miles of entrance road, electrical and water distribution, and
communications line upgrade
