Kennedy Lakes Well

The Kennedy Lakes Water Supply Well is an integral part of the Supplemental Water Supply Project for the Okaloosa County Water and Sewer System.  The water supply well is constructed to a depth of 710 feet and pumps water from the Floridian Aquifer.  The pump setting is 216 feet deep and delivers 750 GPM to the distribution system that is part of the supplemental water pipeline system.  The water supply plant includes chlorination to disinfect the water, a SCADA system that monitors and controls the operations of the water supply plant, a generator to provide auxiliary power to the entire plant, pump-to-waste retention, and landscaping.  In conjunction with the construction of this well a Performance and Aquifer Test Analysis was completed on the Floridian Aquifer and the Sand/Gravel Aquifer to determine the long term impact to the Floridian Aquifer to construct additional water supply wells as proposed by the Water Resource Facilities Plan.  Three (3) monitoring wells were constructed into the Floridian Aquifer at distances of 100, 500, and 1000 feet from the test well and a fourth monitoring well was constructed to a depth of 40 feet into the surficial zone.  The test well was pumped for 72 consecutive hours with water levels monitored and recorded in all five wells.  This data was used to prepare a report that predicted long term pumping impacts of the Floridian Aquifer which would be compared to a Groundwater Modeling Report of the Mid-County Area prepared by Polyengineering.  The Aquifer Test results were compiled and a Hydrogeological Report completed on the drawdown/recovery recorded in all five (5) wells.  The report findings correlated with the Groundwater Modeling Report which resulted in the Water Resource Program being approved by the Northwest Florida Water Management District.
