The Houston County Commission in 1996
began searching for properties in Southern Houston County to develop
an industrial park for recruitment of industry to Southeast Alabama.
Polyengineering assisted the County Commission in locating available
properties and once a site was selected assisted the County Commission
in securing funds to acquire the property. This assistance included a
Phase I Environmental Assessment which included a cultural resource
survey, legal description of property, legal description of property
indicating delineated wetlands, and an environmental report of the
site for proposed development. The County acquired the 250 acre site
in 1997 and began marketing the property for industrial development.
In 1999 the Houston County Commission in a partnership with The City
of Dothan and the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce began discussion
with McLane Company to locate a food distribution facility at this
site. To satisfy the fast track requirements of accommodating a
distribution facility the infrastructure at the industrial park had to
be available within 12 months of agreements with McLane Company.
Polyengineering, Inc. designed the industrial park facilities,
assisted with the bidding process, provided on-site inspection, and
provided project management for the water distribution facilities,
sanitary sewer facilities, sewage treatment facilities, fire pump and
storage facilities and an access road that severed the 250 acre site.
The entire project was completed within 12 months and McLane Company
began operating the distribution facility in 2000. A companion
industry to McLane Company also located at the site in the Year 2000.
The Houston County Commission has since acquired adjacent properties
to enhance recruitment of additional industries at the site
