Polyengineering Wins Engineering Excellence Honor Award

Dothan, AL (March 8, 2004) -Polyengineering, Inc. of Dothan was recently selected for the 2004 Engineering Excellence Honor Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Alabama for the unique design of a Multipurpose Water Tank in Niceville, Florida. The Niceville Tank was selected because of its innovative use of the space inside the fluted column of the “Hydropillar” style tank. The idea of utilizing the space inside the column was developed in response to the city’s need for both 500,000 gallons of additional elevated water storage and major improvements to the concession building at its primary softball complex. This solution eliminated the need for a separate tank site and saved the cost of an additional building.

The multipurpose water tank is now the centerpiece of a 12 acre recreational complex. The structure houses four floors inside a 30’ –diameter column providing 3,900 square feet of conditioned indoor space. Staff restrooms, area for public concessions, and entrances to the various levels make up the ground floor. The second floor contains office space, dressing rooms and showers for umpires, and future access to bleachers. The third floor contains office space, climate controlled announcers’ booths and observation decks suspended outside the fluted column. Enclosed with tinted shatter resistant glass the observation deck gives the scorekeepers a clear view of all four fields. The fourth floor contains mechanical equipment and storage space.
